Kirkcudbright Churches Together Pentecost 2023

The church in Kirkcudbright celebrates Pentecost together

Members of Greyfriars Church joined with Christians from St Cuthbert’s Roman Catholic Church and the Parish Church to celebrate the festival of Pentecost together.

The town was busy with the the local Farmers Market, which takes place on the fourth Sunday of the month. Stalls selling plants, farm produce and home made goods had been erected in the grounds of the Parish Church. Families were out in force to browse and purchase. Church members made their way through the market to gather and sing. David Preston from St Cuthbert’s led us on the violin and Rev’d James Gatherer asked God’s blessing on our Churches as we seek to witness to the self giving love of God.

Rev’d Gill Hart spoke about the way that God equips his people in the Holy Spirit for the work he calls us to. At the end of the service people lingered for ecumenical fellowship over refreshments which were generously provided by the Parish Church.

It was agreed by many that it had been good to follow the example of the first disciples on Pentecost Sunday and get out of our Churches and into the market place. During the service we had prayed for the courage to be bolder and now we look to God to see where that prayer will take us.
