+Bishop Gregor will be the preacher and celebrant at this service. Afterwards we will have a bring and share lunch in Greyfriars together with St Mary’s congregation. Please put this in your diary! Everyone is most welcome.

A Trip to Glasgow to hear Father Laurence Freeman

Benedictine monk and director of the World Community of Christian Meditation, Fr Laurence will speak on ‘Contemplative mind – seeing things differently’ on Thursday, 1st February at 7.30 pm at Wellington Church, Southpark Road, Glasgow.

A minibus will leave St John’s Dumfries at 5.30 pm and arrive back after 11 pm. The cost is between £12-15, which includes both the minibus and entrance.

Healing Workshop

Saturday, 17th February, 10 am – 1 pm at St. Serf's Church, Shettleston, Glasgow

The workshop is an opportunity to reflect on healing and issues surrounding the ministry. We will also reflect on the practicalities of healing within our churches, on pastoral issues, and on how the ministry should be part of the life and mission of our churches.

Everyone is welcome: from all denominations, from those who are simply interested to people who are already involved, or want to be involved, in the healing ministry........  Participants are invited to bring a packed lunch and to stay and chat afterwards.

Worship Leader's Course

During January and February there is an opportunity for training as Lay Worship Leaders. Attendance at the 5-session course is a requirement in order to be licensed by the bishop for this role.

Bishop Gregor will offer the training. The sessions will be held in the Diocesan Centre each Tuesday evening from 7.00pm - 9.00pm on the following dates:


Session 1: Tuesday, 30 January

Session 2: Tuesday, 6 February

Session 3: Tuesday, 13 February

Session 4: Tuesday, 20 February

Session 5: Tuesday, 27 February

Eighteenth Theological Reflection Meeting

The 18th Theological Reflection, “Church and the Academy”, will be held on Tuesday 23rd January 2018 from 12.30 to 2 p.m. in the Maxwell Rooms of St Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Dalbeattie.  Access is down the stairs on the left of the church, but please note that there is very good disability access as well. Refreshments will be provided, but bring your own lunch.

Speaker:  Catriona Thomson, the Castle Douglas CAP Debt Centre Manager and Debt Coach, and a member of New Life Church Castle Douglas on “Christians against Poverty – Serve the Poor, Save the Lost, With the Church, Across the Nation.”
