News from the Diocesan (Virtual) Office

Welcome to Bishop Kevin

This is to confirm that Bishop Kevin becomes our new Bishop tomorrow, Wednesday 1st July.  Please check out our website and social media platforms (detailed below) for further news, including details of the Diocesan litany video with voices from across the regions, which (at the time of writing this) should be available to view from the late evening of today, Tuesday 30th June (or early morning, Wednesday 1st July…).

Also, from late evening on Saturday 4th July, there will be a video of welcome for Bishop Kevin, to which many have contributed, and we look forward to sharing this with him. Enormous thanks are due to Petko Marinov for putting these online offerings together, and to everyone who helped him.

And, on Sunday 5th July, Bishop Kevin will be preaching his first words to the Diocese as part of our Cathedral’s worship, so please make sure you tune in to their online worship page at thecathedral.org.uk/worship.

Contacting Bishop Kevin: Bishop Kevin has now taken over the email address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., so emails can be sent to him at that address as of now.  Please be aware, however, that he is very likely to be completely inundated with messages in these early days; also, please be aware that due to a very long-standing commitment that was arranged before his 4th July translation was moved to 1st July, he is heavily involved with a 3 day (and all-day, each day) selection process for the Scottish Episcopal Institute  from 1st to 3rd July – so although he will be keen to be in touch with as many of us as possible as soon as possible… well, it might take a little while before he can exchange messages as plentifully as he would like to do…

Having said that, there are plans afoot for Bishop Kevin to meet (via video-conferences) our Trustees, the Diocesan Council, on 11th July, and all of the Regional Councils over the fortnight following that. He will also be arranging telephone or video conversations with clergy across the diocese in these opening weeks of his Episcopate, and he wishes to extend his warm appreciation of the many comments and welcomes already received, following the messages sent by him and by Elspeth in the last Diocesan Office Update.

Other Diocesan News

Another extremely important and welcome installation takes place on 1st July, and that is of Rev Matthew Little to St Mary’s, Hamilton and St Andrew’s Uddingston, where we wish him, and both congregations, the happiest and most fulfilling of times ahead in this new era for the Diocese.

Also, congratulations are due to Rev Heller Gonzalez, whose appointment to become priest at St Augustine’s, Dumbarton, has recently been announced. We wish Rev Heller, his wife Montse, and the congregation equally happy times for the future.

Bishop Mark

It has been a pity that we’ve been unable to note the departure of Bishop Mark as our Interim Bishop in more tangible and personal form, because he has been so inspirational, so dedicated, and so pastorally supportive of us and of our charges throughout the last 19 months. However, this is to announce (spoiler alert, Bishop Mark!) that a tangible expression of the Diocese’s gratitude should indeed be arriving at Arpafeelie within the next few days, and probably in the form of three different packages. We hope that he’ll be at home to sign for them!
